Do I need a passport? Yes (kinda). You will not be stuck in Mexico nor in the United States if you don’t bring one, it will just be a pain in the ass to cross and have to deal with border patrol. Imagine you got your shit stolen……they will let you in.
Is there a quicker way to cross the border? Yes! You can apply to get a Global Entry Card in this link: cbp.gov/travel It costs $100 US Dlls, it’s good for 5 years and you can use it any time you enter USA, so it will avoid long wait times at the borders, airports and/or ports. FYI, you must have a clean criminal record, which includes not having any DUIs within the last 5 years.
What if I arrive to San Diego after everyone is already in Mexico? You can easily Uber around in San Diego and in Mexico. Just let us know when you plan to arrive and we can either explain how to come join us or help arrange transportation for yourself.
Can I use US dollars in Mexico? Yes you can, every border state in Mexico accepts US currency so no need to exchange into Mexican Pesos, although there are Currency Exchange kiosks everywhere around town.
Can I use my Credit Cards/Debit Cards? Yes, almost every restaurant/bar/hotel/tourist attraction accepts EMT, just make sure you call your bank to let them know you will be abroad because they may put a preventive block on your cards.
I am 18 yrs old, can I drink in Mexico? Yes!! The legal age to drink in Mexico is 18.
Can I buy weed in Mexico? No, marijuana is illegal in Mexico, but you can have fun with it in California!
Can I drive my American car into Mexico? Yes you can, but we suggest you reconfirm with your insurance provider if they cover you in Mexico, some will cover up to 100 miles. Also, we believe it may be a lot easier for you to move around in Uber or public transportation than to drive around.
